I wanted to share my journey into beach racketball, a sport I took up after decades away from structured sports, although I’ve been skateboarding actively for over a decade. Often, as I watched skilled players during my walks on the beach, I caught myself thinking, "I could never be this good."
Four years ago, I picked up a racket for the first time, and after numerous starts and stops, I committed to playing seriously about six months ago. My dedication led me to form a group to welcome new players to the sport, fostering a community of enthusiastic participants. As my skills sharpened, so did my physical intensity and stamina.
The joy I derive from beach racketball is profound. Being "in the zone," where I deliver a fast-paced ball within a two-foot target to a partner sixteen feet away, brings an indescribable thrill. Even more exhilarating is the challenge of returning a difficult shot accurately—a test of both skill and agility.
For anyone contemplating starting a new sport, I wholeheartedly recommend beach racketball or frescobol. It’s a perfect blend of high-intensity cardio and deep concentration, all rolled into one thrilling experience. The focus is not only on the ball but also on mastering your reactions.
These experiences have built mental fortitude in me, helping me face my challenges and be more aware of moments where I might think, "I could never be this good at this.”
